Fauna

Sabinas Hidalgo fauna is typical from arid and semi-arid regions from northeastern Mexico. Some of the species commonly seen on the fields are:

Wild species

  • Coyote (Canis latrans)
  • Ornate wood turtle (Rhinoclemmys pulcherrima)
  • Texas tortoise (Gopherus berlandieri)
  • Turkey vulture (Cathartes aura)
  • Bobcat (Linx rufus)
  • Western diamondback rattlesnake or Texas diamond-back (Crotalus atrox)
  • Great radrunner (Geococcyx californianus)
  • Texas horned lizard (Phrynosoma cornutum)
  • Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana)
  • Armadillo (Asypus novemcinctus)
  • Black-tailed jackrabbit (Lepus californicus)
  • Rabbit (Sylvilagus floridanus)
  • Allen's squirrell (Sciurus alleni)
  • Mexican ground squirrell (Spermophilus mexicanus)
  • Raccoon (Procyon lotor)
  • Puma (Felis concolor)
  • Collared peccary (Dicotyles tajacu)
  • White-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
  • Black bear (Ursus americanus)
